KERSHAW COUNTY INITIATES COVID-19 OPERATIONS PLAN AFTER GOVERNOR ISSUES STATE OF EMERGENCY

Kershaw County, SC – Kershaw County has now activated their COVID-19 Operations Plan beginning at 5:00PM today upon the Governor’s State of Emergency in effect for South Carolina. All county offices, landfill, and convenience centers will operate at normal schedule, but with reduced staff.

The goal of the plan is to minimize exposure between county staff and the public. In an effort to do so, a strategic reduction in county staff is in effect. A portion of County employees will work remotely from home while others will work within their county offices.

Kershaw County’s COVID-19 Operations Plan is subject to change while active to include essential departments possibly changing to non-essential status. Changes to this plan that impacts the community will be made public immediately.

 

COVID-19 HOTLINE

Kershaw County’s COVID-19 hotline will become active Monday, March 16th at 12:00PM. The public is encouraged to call the COVID-19 hotline for county information. The COVID-19 hotline is 803.425.7242.

DROP BOXES AVAILABLE

Payments may be made through temporary drop boxes set up at the front and back of The Government Center (515 Walnut Street, Camden). No cash will be accepted within the drop boxes – checks only.

 

COURTHOUSE

As of today, Kershaw County Court of General Sessions has postponed First Appearances scheduled for March 17th at 9:00AM to April 9th at 9:00AM. Second Appearances scheduled for March 17th at 2:00PM have also been postponed until April 9th at 2:00PM.

In addition, all jury trials scheduled at The Kershaw County Courthouse (1121 Broad Street, Camden) for the week of March 30th has been canceled.

Kershaw County Grand Jury will meet on Wednesday, March 18th at 9:00AM with an abbreviated docket. Kershaw County Court of General Sessions asks grand jurors to use discretion when considering to attend and recommends jurors to stay home if they are sick, at increased risk of severe illnesses from other infectious diseases, or of older age.

 

COUNTY COUNCIL MEETINGS

Kershaw County Council will still meet during the declaration of emergency, but livestream will be made available to the public through the County’s YouTube page.

 

COUNTY EVENTS AND MEETINGS

Other than County Council’s regularly scheduled meetings, all county meetings and events have been cancelled until further notice.
