GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

 

Under limited supervision, must be physically and mentally capable of directing, coordinating, and supervising the provision of athletic activities of the Recreation Department.  Develops and implements plans to facilitate division growth and to effectively meet the leisure needs of a growing community.    Reviews work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy.     Reports to the Athletics Superintendent.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

 

Plans, directs, and promotes all public youth and adult athletic sports leagues and special events; recruits volunteer coaches and officials; schedules games and officials; recommends entry fee for programs; clarifies any questions regarding league rules and regulations.

 

Assists in planning, directing, and coordinating the athletic programs provided for the citizens; assists in evaluating and identifying present and future community needs; establishes priorities; assists in formulating long and short-range recreation plans.

 

Supervises professional, and labor personnel; assigns work loads and establishes work schedules; directs and supervises duties of assigned staff.  Supervisory duties instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards and coordinating activities; allocating personnel. Recommends the selection of new employees, employee transfers, promotions, discipline, discharge and increases in salary to the Director for approval.

 

Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers advice and assistance as needed.

 

Meets with staff to review and evaluate existing programs, plan and implement new programs, and review status of maintenance and facility operation.

 

Meets with the public to respond to questions and resolve problems concerning the County’s athletic programs and facilities; performs public relations activities within the community and state.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ATHLETICS SUPERVISOR

RECREATION DEPARTMENT

 

 

Prepares bid specifications for equipment and supplies; maintains inventory of athletic equipment to ensure equipment is in adequate supply and well maintained.

 

Conducts surveys and public meetings and evaluates current programs and facilities to determine the leisure needs of individual communities within the County and related County growth patterns.  Works with the Recreation Director and Recreation Commission to establish department policies and ultimate goals.

 

Coordinates programs and activities with other Recreation functions, County departments, agencies, community organizations and the public.

 

Operates a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, calculator, telephone, sports equipment, vehicle, etc.

 

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Recreation Director, Recreation Commission, subordinates, County department Directors, managers and employees, volunteers, consultants, sales representative, community organizations, government officials, customers, parents and the general public.

 

Work hours may vary.  Will be required to work normal office hours of 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.  May be required to work evening and weekend hours to ensure proper coverage of programs.

 

Attends conferences and seminars as required.

 

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Provides assistance in recreational activities, planning and setup.

 

Inspects facilities for proper maintenance and safety.

 

Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining Park facilities and grounds.

 

Performs all other related duties as assigned.

 

 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

 

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in recreation and parks administration, physical education or related field supplemented by four years of recreation management, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Requires the ability to attain National Recreation Parks Association (NRPA) professional certification within one year of start of employment.    Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
