Summer Day Camps (Descriptions)

Sports Fun Camp
Boys and girls can learn basic fundamentals of baseball, soccer, basketball and football in this day camp. But, will also play fun games such as kickball, volleyball, frisbee golf, table tennis, and horseshoes. Skill development, competition, team work and fun are the main objectives.   Kayla Carraway and Courtney Elyard will instruct the campers.  Snacks are provided but campers MUST bring a Bag Lunch.

Lugoff-Elgin Baseball Camp
Beginners through advanced players are welcome. Learn the fundamentals or improve your skills. Instructing the camp will be Randy Stokes, L-E High Varsity coach with local players assisting.


DATES: June 4 - 6  Monday through Wednesday
LOCATION: Lugoff-Elgin High School (Baseball field) - Hwy. #1 - Lugoff 
AGES: 6 - 13 years old

CHS Cheerleading Camp 
Instructing the camp will be the Camden High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleaders. They will offer both cheer and dance.  Girls will be divided into two ages groups, Ages 4 - 8 will learn cheer and Ages 9 - 12 will learn dance.  Public will be invited to a showcase at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 7.

 CHS Baseball Camp
Learn the fundamentals of baseball or improve your skills in this camp. Daily training sessions will include hitting, base running, sliding and all aspects of defense. Campers will get one-on-one instruction. Coach Denny Beckley of Camden High baseball and high school players will be instructing. The camp is open for boys or girls.

DATES: June 4 - 8     Monday through Friday

AGES: 6 - 13 years old

Lugoff-Elgin Volleyball Camp
The camp is for beginners through intermediate players.  Beginners will focus on skill development and work toward game play.  Intermediate players will refine their skills and work on more advanced team concepts.  Players will be grouped by skill level.  instructing the camp will be the current Lugoff-Elgin High Varsity Head Coach Katie Ham.

DATES: June 4- 8- Monday through Friday

 Lugoff-Elgin Softball Camp 

This softball camp is held at the Lugoff-Elgin High School softball fields. Beginner through advanced players are welcome. Daily sessions will include defensive play, base running and hitting. Instructing the camp will be Lugoff-Elgin High Softball Coach James Marlow with local players assisting.

DATES: June 12 - 15     Tuesday through Friday 
LOCATION: Lugoff Elgin High School Softball Field, use Richardson Road entrance
AGES: 5 years old to rising 9th grader
COST: $50 per camper (includes t-shirt)
HOURS:  9:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.

Summer Playground Program
Boys and girls ages 5-11 are invited to participate in our summer playground program. The program includes games, crafts, outside activities, field trips and more. Free lunches are provided through United Way Summer Food Program each site. Participants will need to pre-register by Thursday, May 31 to guarantee participation in the program (until maximum numbers are reached at each site- noted below.) On site registration WILL NOT BE accepted for any remaining spots @ each program site . You will have to go to the Recreation Department Main Office to register for any remaining spots.  Paying weekly will not be accepted until the week of June 11 if remaining slots are available.  Birth certificates may be required for proof of age. Supervisors will be on duty on these dates and sites in the county.

"Beyond the Court" Basketball Camp
This Basketball Camp is offered for boys and girls ages 6 - 17. The camp will teach the fundamentals of basketball and the aspects of life "Beyond the Court".  Emphasis will be placed on physical skills and techniques, proper training and conditioning, team sport, positive mental attitudes, healthy lifestyles and good sportsmanship as well as many other aspects.  The camp is instructed by Camden High Varsity Boys Assistant Coach Sterling Council along with other standout basketball players.   Space will be limited so make sure you sign up early!

DATES: June 11- 13 - Monday through Wednesday

Technical Soccer Camp
Technical Soccer Camp offers a fun & nurturing environment that is conducive to learning. The curriculum will cover technical development, technical functional training, scrimmages, and includes our 1001 touches program. "A" Licensed Director of Coaching for Liverpool FCA, Alan Riches selects his staff based on many factors such as their enthusiasm, soccer knowledge and capabilities and the ability to establish relationships. Each camper is treated as an individual with unique needs. The purpose of the recreational camp is to have fun while developing soccer awareness and skills for long-term growth. Its a game to enjoy, so we use laughter as just one measuring tool. The more serious player will undergo training that will encourage decision making within a competitive environment in order to maximize potential.

Lugoff Elgin Basketball Camp
This basketball Camp is offered for boys and girls ages 5 - 14. The primary focus of this camp will be to teach young players basic basketball skills and fundamentals. The camp participants will also learn the concept of team play. There will be some scrimmage games and awards for free throw shotting, hustling, sportsmanship and more. There will be eight-foot goals for younger players. The camp is instructed by Lugoff-Elgin Varsity Girls Head Coach, Von Duncan and members of the coaching staff and varsity players.

Golf Camp
Learn the fundamentals of golf or improve your skills in this camp. Matt McCarley, PGA professional.  Beginners through advance golfers are welcome.

CHS Softball Camp 

Learn fundamental skills of fast pitch softball or improve your skills in the camp. Daily sessions will include defensive play, base running and hitting. Instructing the camp will be Camden High Varsity Softball Coach Lynn Looney along with varsity and JV players assisting.

Demons Football Camp
Daily training sessions will include all aspects of defense, offense and speciality techniques. Phases of the kicking game, the passing game, skill positions and line play will also be included.  Instructing the camp will be the Lugoff-Elgin High Varsity Football Staff and Varsity Players. No football equipment needed. Campers are asked to wear t-shirt, shorts and cleats as well as bring a water bottle.

Creative Art Camp 
Join Jennifer Manuel, Art Teacher at Jackson Elementary School, for three days of creative fun. Participants will experience a variety of art forms and will be able to take home several pieces of their own artwork. Students will create drawings, paintings, and a variety of craft projects.  Materials will be provided.

Little Bulldog Football Camp 
Learn the fundamentals of football and improve your skills in this camp. Daily training sessions will include all aspects of defense and offense. Instructing the camp will be the Camden High football staff and players. No football equipment needed. Campers are asked to wear cleats and bring a water bottle. The camp is sponsored by Vonnie Holliday, a former Camden High School standout, as well as a NFL standout.

 Horse Riding Camp or Lessons
Three levels of classes offered for those who would like to take group or individual lessons.  These classes meet one day a week for four weeks and the cost is $120.  Participants will become acquainted with the horse through grooming, tacking, and leading in the first level, working their way steadily towards jumping, horse show etiquette, conformation and rules of the show ring in higher levels.  Information listed below are for the camp dates (Monday through Friday each week).

Camp Sun Fun
This day camp is offered for the developmentally disabled ages 6 to 21 in our local and surroundings counties. Activities include arts and crafts, active and passive games, swimming, dance and rhythm, field trips and more. Free breakfast and lunch is provided through the United Way Summer Food Program. Interested individuals can fill out an application at the Parks & Recreation Office.   

DATES: July 2 – 13  (will not meet July 4)

Soccer Camp
This soccer camp is open for boys and girls. Players will be grouped by age, size, and ability. Daily training sessions will include individual ball handling skills, partner skills, developmental games and much more! This fun-filled week is the perfect way to introduce players to the game of soccer and to challenge advanced players to improve their game. Players must wear shin guards and bring a water bottle and soccer ball. The instructor is Peter Wittig, who has 24 years experience coaching at the college, high school, and youth level. Coach Wittig's is the varsity boys soccer coach at Blythewood High School.

DATES: August 6 - 10       Monday through Friday

Summer Tennis Program

Boys and Girls with beginner to intermediate tennis skills are invited to participate.  Focus of program will be on basic tennis rules, on court play and skill development.

Technical soccer League (4 weeks):
In partnership with Parks & Recreation, the Technical Soccer League offers a fun and nurturing environment designed to be conducive to long term development.  The purpose of the league is to have fun while developing soccer awareness and skills for long term growth.  The structure will include two nights of training and a scrimmage day focused on developing over winning.  

DATES/HOURS:  July 17 - August 11
                          Tuesday and Thursday Skill Session:  6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.
                          Saturday morning scrimmage games: 9:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M.
