The judicial system is comprised of three basic components: the courts, the bar, and administrative support. All of these judicial elements are impacted by the responsibilities of Clerks of Court and their respective administrative staff. Each county in South Carolina elects a Clerk of Court by popular vote to a four-year term. Clerks of Court maintain all court records, provide docket management, and oversee the receipt of fees, fines and costs. They obtain caseload statistics which they report to Court Administration. Clerks of Court provide the necessary staff support and assistance to ensure a more productive operation of the judicial system.
The Clerk of Court is also responsible for drawing jurors for Civil and General Sessions Court and the Grand Jury for the County.
Juror Information
Jurors are to park in any available parking spaces around the courthouse that are designated. Jurors are to report to the 3rd floor main courtroom (Room 300). It is located in the middle of the hallway and has double doors.
Jurors are paid $10 per day for each day they have to appear at the courthouse. Jurors are also paid 30 cents per mile. Juror checks are usually mailed by the end of the week or the first of the following week after service. An excuse is available for any juror at the Clerk of Court’s office after his or her service has concluded.
